Starting a new year always gets me thinking about starting fresh. Getting a do-over on the things that I meant to do. Or, just stepping it up a notch in my heath, life & faith. I'm not into making resolutions, but I do like a good old fashioned "today's the day" kinda moment. Growth is always good, constantly making little shifts towards positive change. That's the way that I view everything I do. Just little tiny baby steps in the direction of what I want to accomplish, towards the vision I have in my head and my heart of my dream life. And, recognizing along the way when you are just standing still, not going anywhere at all, in what feels like a pile of your own sh*t. We need to courageously emerge from the muck and mire (sounds so epic-movie-moment, doesn't it?), dig ourselves out of a winter funk - and not the good kind of {uptown} funk. Part of that process for me has become doing a regular detox/cleanse. To get all that crap out of my body and my life and to take a step forward into a new & improved version of myself.
The concept of cleansing is not new to the world, but it's actually fairly new to me. I didn't understand the purpose of it and how desperately my body needed a reset until I did my first cleanse/detox last fall. I was super hesitant to try it - like I would only be doing it because it was "trendy" and I desperately avoid jumping on any sort of band wagons. But when something becomes "popular' there's a reason for it. It's GOOD. It works. Well, usually. In the case of hatchimals, I'm not sure that all the fuss was really warranted for those egg cracking little weirdos. In this case, however, I was so pleasantly surprised with how GOOD I felt in my skin after detoxing for just one week. Like sing on the mountain tops, sound of music style, good. Here's why. The biggest reason to detox your system (contrary to popular belief in weight loss circles) is to remove toxins from your body, through your detox/filtration organs. While this does sometimes result in weight loss - I found it helpful to focus on the positive benefits for my overall health and not think about the scale. The detox process helps to give your body a #refresh. A fresh start. A CLEAN slate from which to rebuild a your 2.0 self.
My family eats pretty clean and has a chemical free home; we use the cleanest {homemade or essential oil} products that we can find. I didn't think I had any toxic build up (so naive, was I!). But one week of cleansing proved just how much my body needed it. I felt lighter (not weight - though I was down 8lbs but more like I didn't feel so heavy/weary anymore), less hungry, more energy without any caffeine/sugar crashing afterwards, way fewer sugar cravings (like not getting caught standing at the cupboard with 2 chocolate truffles stuffed in my mouth) because I wasn't constantly dying to eat sweets - for reals! Plus, I was SO PROUD of the foods that I was putting into my body. Some of the recipes and juices have become staples for my healthy lifestyle.
The thing I loved most about that cleanse was the ability to choose my own recipes from a list of things that looked more than just edible - they looked like real, delicious, whole food. Even my husband who is a pasta and steak kinda guy was really enjoying the foods I was preparing. Plus, it was so user friendly; I loved being able to easily make my own meal plan using the tools provided. So simple!
The time has come to detox again - this time I'm going to engage in a brand new cleanse. It comes from the same brilliant creator *Ange Peters* (her name gets starred because she's a shiny star) and this time it's for 30 days! You're welcome to join in on my journey and cheer me on, or do it along side of me and help keep me accountable.
I’m pretty excited about this new 30 day cleanse program for our wellness community using the incredible supplements that doTERRA offers through the Cleanse + Restore kit. This cleanse was created by Ange Peters (founder of Hol:Fit and Presidential Diamond in doTERRA). Ange is a rockstar when it comes to all things food, nutrition, active lifestyle, rocking health and essential oil education. She also incorporated a few essential oil routines and detox rituals into this simple to carry out program. There will be tons of education, inspiration and $500 worth of giveaways throughout the 30 days too!
